[DRC] dYdX Ecosystem Development Program (fka dYdX Grants Program)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and I agree

I very much like competition, especially on the field where there is just 1 player active. In the end that creates a monopoly, which is not good for the delivered service.

Hey, @dYdXEcosystemProgram
When will we see an update about the grants funded. The last report was over a month ago

I can already share that this month has seen probably the highest velocity ever

Felix, In my opinion, with such a budget, the program is capable of doing a much better job in keeping its backers informed about its operations. I understand when a decision is not final or is under negotiation. However, if a funding transaction is already on-chain, by that point there should always be a post informing the community about what has been funded.

Wanted to share the most recent dYdX Town Hall which covers updates around recent DEP activity: https://youtu.be/ao8SdcFTij0?feature=shared&t=737 – as previously agreed the DEP will prioritize quarterly reporting to provide more in-depth updates consistent with longer term aligned partnerships.

I wrote this post a long time ago and never hit send, and since it wasn’t about someone that I was just taking my anger on what a terrible person they are and to watch their back, I went ahead and let it out the world.

I agree it may be difficult to attribute work, determine the level of effort, and the time actually taken to complete a task…but this does not apply for developers using a source control management such as Git.

Are projects funded not an open source project being contributed to on GitHub? Is actually pretty simple to see what productivity a developer has and what they are working on by looking at the project’s commit history.

I would say on average the work is pretty solid, but I’ve definitely seen some of the lesser priority items that were lauded as a huge undertaking only to look over to see what was so complex and see already completed worked weeks in advance or others being behind schedule because of complexity and not looking not so complex.

I do get that we all have to represent our work well and but we (EVERYBODY) could turn down the AI generated forum posts from the maximum levels of prose and elegance of our undertakings.

All jests aside and for actual criticism; while the projects are open source, it looks very much like a silo of development not undergoing much code review or collaboration, at least on GitHub. They probably manage code reviews and commits internally and do public checkins after review.

I wouldn’t say it’s the maintainer’s responsibility to actively encourage managing their projects, as it may break into their bottom line. However, I find most truly intelligent people love to share knowledge and well intended, which a vast majority of this outspoken community are once you get through the AI. If not, I’m prepared to draft an angry letter I probably won’t send.

As a method of encouraging positive behavior, when granting millions of dollars maybe requires 20% to be used for not only bettering decentralization, but also building better relationships outside of the interest group.

This can include

  1. open bug bounties on GitHub,
  2. sponsored public hack-a-thons by the grantee that provides a mentor for group guided Saturday night dev jam, or
  3. hiring vested community members interns breaking into the biz to maintain code in the event the interest group is not available or no longer viable.
